New York Knicks 2000 Present Era

After losing Patrick Ewing, the Knicks managed to have a winning record of 48-34.

They advanced to the playoffs but lost to the Raptors in the first round. Next season, as the season progressed, the team was shocked of the resignation of Van Gundy and hired Don Chaney to be the head coach. With a record of 30-52, they did not qualify for the playoffs since 1986.

In 2001-02 NBA season, they had many changes in the roster, as they acquired, Shandon Anderson and Howard Eisley they improved their record. They had a 37-45 record in 2002-03 but still did not advance to the playoffs. As they started the 2003-04 with a 15-24 record, they replaced Chaney with Lenny Wilkens. They also got Stephon Marbury.

They advanced to the postseason with a 39-43 record but got swept by the New Jersey Nets. They struggled in the next season as they finished the season with 33-49 record. During the season, Wilkens resigned and Herb Williams was hired as the interim coach to finish the season. They hired Larry Brown in the offseason.

Before the season, they acquired Eddy Curry in exchange for Tim Thomas, Michael Sweetney and a first round pick. They finished the season with a 23-59 record as they had the highest payroll in the league. In the next years were a lot of roster movements.

In 2006-07, they ended the season with 33-49 record and still fail to qualify for the playoffs. During the 2007 NBA Draft, Channing Frye was traded along with Steve Francis to the Blazers in exchange for Zach Randolph, Fred Jones and Dan Dickau. They also acquired Wilson Chandler as the 23rd pick. They had tied the franchise record of the worst season record of 23-59.

In 2008, James Nolan hired the Pacers’ CEO and president Donnie Walsh to replace Isaiah Thomas as the team president. They fired Thomas and hired coach Mike D’Antoni. They acquired Danilo Gallinari in the 2008 Draft and signed Chris Duhon. They traded Jamal Crawford for Al Harrington of the Golden State Warriors. They also traded Randolph and Mardy Collins to acquire Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas from the Clippers.

They improved the season with their newly organized roster with a 9 win improvement from the previous season. In 2009 NBA draft, they got Jordan Hill. They had again a lot of changes in their roster, one of which is acquiring Tracy McGrady and Eddie House. Still, they had a losing record and did not qualify for the playoffs.

They acquired Amare Stoudemire from the Suns in July 5, 2010. They also traded David Lee to the Warriors for Ronny Turiaf, Kelenna Azubuike and Anthony Randolph. They also acquired Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov.
With Stoudemire and other key players, they started the season with a 28-26 record before the All-star weekend. In February 21, 2011, they successfully acquired Superstar Carmelo Anthony along with Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman for Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov, a first round draft pick, Warrior’s second round draft pick in 2013 and 2014 and $3 million cash.
