Michael Jordan in High School

Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1963 and his parents made a decision that would alter the course of basketball as we all know it today.

They relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina when he was still a toddler and this was to give the family a better shot at a good life. Jordan has two older brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister, which made for quite a household of little-ballers!

Michael Jordan in high school is one of the greatest stories in all of the game of roundball to this day as it combines the persistence of a positive attitude and the never say die mentality that is so Jordanesque!

Michael Jordan's Exciting Biography

Surprisingly enough, young Michael fell in love with the All-American sport of baseball before even touching a basketball. Mj’s adoration of baseball started with his older brother, Larry, who would beat young and inexperienced Michael in every sport they played, including baseball and then basketball.

This pushed Michael away from roundball as he thought that if he could not best his older but less-athletically gifted older brother how could he ever compete against the taller, more-athletic boys of the tobacco road area?

Go Boy Go-Thanks Larry

Just like in Michael Jordan fashion the game of basketball, which started out as a roadblock turned into a challenge and not against Larry or any other player in the neighborhood for that matter but for himself.

A little known fact about Michael’s ascension in the sport of basketball, which later would see him as one of the greatest players to ever play the game, was that he would later be quoted as saying that if it was not for his older brother teasing him after each game he won he would have stuck to baseball and we would have all missed so much.

Michael Jordan in High School

Jordan played his first organized game of basketball for Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. As everyone has heard of by now, Jordan was cut from the varsity team and this only reminded him that he had something to prove to himself, again. Night after night Michael would stay after school and wait until the gymnasium was locked up and he would sneak back in and turn the light son and play for one hour a night, by himself.

After that first learning year of high school junior varsity play and combined with the one-hour solo practices Michael was soon to good for boys his own age and even older boys from the neighborhood.

After only 8 months of training mostly shooting jumpers by himself Michael was good enough to try out for the varsity again and this time he easily made the team and lead them to the state championship, twice. Michael Jordan in high school and then in college is a great story and one that needs to be repeated time and time and time again as it proves that no matter what do not give up on yourself even after everyone else has!
