The Washington Mystics have had inconsistent seasons, but season in which they played tough none-the-less. Even after playing hard and with all the passion you can muster, sometimes it still doesn’t win games.
Luckily for the Mystics, they have Crystal Langhorne who won’t stop working until they have a winning season.
Before The WNBA
Before Crystal Langhorne played in the WNBA she was winning awards in high school and college. She attended Willingboro High School where she led her team to the State Title her sophomore year, was named the New Jersey State’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004, and was the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,776 points. In addition to high school basketball, Langhorne also played AAU with the Philadelphia Belles.
While playing with the Belles, she won the U16 AAU National Championships and was named the tournament’s MVP. After her high school career was over, she signed a letter of intent to play with the University of Maryland.
Here she continued to break records, including becoming the all-time leading scorer with 2,247 points, and rebounder with 1,229. She is the only basketball player, male or female, to have 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in school history. In 2006, Langhorne helped her team bring home the National Championship.
Langhorne was fortunate enough to travel while playing AAU in high school and on the USA Team during her college years. During her sophomore year of high school, she travelled to France where the Belles won gold. In 2005 and 2007, she helped the U19 and U21 USA Teams, respectively, win the gold medal.
Last Season
Last season was a great season for Langhorne. She played hard the whole season and saw much playing time for her efforts. The Mystics played 34 games last season, and of those 34 games, Langhorne started all of them. She averaged 34.1 minutes per game because she refused to quit. In her 34 minutes of play, she averaged 16.3 points per game.
In addition to this, Langhorne also had 9.7 rebounds per game and 1.1 assists per game to go along with her 58.9% from the field and 77.2% from the free throw line. In only her third season in the WNBA, Langhorne has succeeded in showing her worth to the team and is a natural leader on the court.
Playoffs
The playoffs were a little bit of a struggle for Langhorne. She was still extremely productive and played strong, but her performance during the regular season was better than hers in the playoffs, according to the statistics. The Mystics made it to two playoff games in the 2010 season. Langhorne started both and averaged 35 minutes in each game.
During her 35 minutes of play, she averaged 13.5 points per game. Along with this, Langhorne had 8 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists to go along with her 45.8% from the field and 100% from the free throw line. She still continued to score and attempt to motivate her team to continue to play hard, but it wasn’t enough. They ended up losing both games against the Atlanta Dream.
