The USPORT - Algeria Basketball Program

There are many different ways to promote basketball in a particular country.

There are also many different ways for the basketball players and also the basketball coaches to learn new techniques and new ideas about basketball. Among the many different ways to do all those things, one of the best ways is through the so called USPORT. So, what is USPORT? What are the benefits of USPORT? All of your questions about USPORT will be answered in just a little while.

The USPORT Organizers

If you’re curious what USPORT means, it means Unity through Sports. The USPORT in Algeria was organized by the Indiana Center for Cultural Exchange or ICCP.

The Indiana Center for Cultural Exchange together with the Algerian Ministry of Youth Sports, the Algerian Basketball Federation, the Indiana University, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the University of Minnesota, and the National Youth Sports Corporation, designed the USPORT for the Algerian basketball players and not just for the players only but also for the Algerian basketball coaches also.

What is the USPORT for? What are its benefits?

The above stated institutions collaborated for the benefit of the Algerian basketball players and for the Algerian basketball coaches.

The USPORT-Algeria program allows the Algerian basketball players and the Algerian coaches to learn new technical basketball skills. The program also helps the basketball players to practice their basketball skills and to develop and enhance attitude during games. If the Algerian basketball players benefit from the USPORT program, so does the Algerian basketball coaches.

The USPORT-Algeria program provides an opportunity for the basketball coaches to learn new advancements and new techniques that can greatly help them in their coaching career. The Algerian basketball coaches will have more time to be with the Algerian basketball players, thus making rapport between them, and thus creating a relationship between the coach and the player not just socially but personally.

The Algerian basketball coaches would also have the opportunity to instil values to the basketball players that would greatly help them in during their real games, and also in their real lives.

The Algerian basketball players and basketball coaches are lucky for having this kind of program, because not all countries are given the opportunity to collaborate with the Indiana Center for Cultural Exchange and not all countries are given the chance to learn new things through the said program.

These are what the USPORT-Algeria program offers to the basketball players and basketball coaches in Algeria, what more can they ask for?

USPORT Activities

The USPORT sent a delegation in Algeria February of the year 2007. The USPORT-Algeria program held clinics for Algerian basketball coaches and basketball players.

The delegation organized 4 coaches’ clinic for the 120 basketball coaches from the Northern part of Algeria and 1 coaches’ clinic for the 50 basketball coaches from the Southern part of Algeria. There were also 4 players’ workshop that trained 80 youths from the North, and 2 players’ workshop that trained 70 youths from the South.

You've got something to share with us about this country?

We can't wait to read about some things that you might know about this country. We're constantly getting questions like..."Do you know some people I can contact over there?", "What are some popular players/teams" and kinds of other question.
