Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash

It is impossible for two teammates not to be friends. The members of the NBA teams see each other almost every day, if not every day, which makes them get to know each other and eventually become friends.

That’s what happened to Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. Let us see what happened to their friendship after all these years.

As an Individual

Dirk Werner Nowitzki was born on June 19, 1978 in Wurzburg, Germany. He is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association. He was drafted ninth overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1998 Draft, but he was immediately traded to the Mavericks. Since then, Dirk Nowitzki has been playing for the Dallas Mavericks. He is a power forward but has also the speed, size and the shooting ability to play the frontcourt positions, center and small forward. That’s how amazing Dirk Nowitzki is.

Stephen John Nash, who is popularly known as Steve Nash, is Canadian that was born on February 7, 1974 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Just like Dirk Nowitzki, he is a professional basketball player in the NBA.

He was drafted fifteenth pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 1996 Drafts. In his first two years in the NBA, he had shown minimal impact that’s why the Suns traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998.

Best friends

Dirk Nowitzki was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks and was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998. At the same year, Steve Nash, who has been in with the Phoenix Suns and in the NBA for two years, was drafted to the Dallas Mavericks. Since they were teammates and both new to the team, they became friends, close friends in fact.

Their friendship is not only seen outside the court, but also inside the court. They both make a great team plus the other team members like Michael Finley and Juwan Howard. They did not reach the playoffs in their first year, but in the next year they did which was a great achievement because it was their first appearance in the playoffs after ten years. However, they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in the Semifinals, four games to one.

In the next year, they appeared again in the playoffs but did not reach the Conference finals. In 2002-2003 season, Dirk and Nash led the team to the Conference Finals, but unfortunately lost to the San Antonio Spurs, four games to two. In 2004, Nash became one of the Phoenix Suns.

Though Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash are in different teams now, their friendship did not seize. They are still friends up until now, best of friends in fact. Dirk Nowitzki is even the Godfather of Steve Nash’s twin daughters.

Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash even hangs out on Steve’s Phoenix area house, giving Dirk some bonding time with his friends’ twin daughters, Lola and Bella. Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash said in an interview that when they talk or when they text message, there are generally more jokes than hoop talks.

Their relationship is what we call true friendship, though they do not play for the same team, they did not stop their friendship and made it even stronger.
