The Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers is a team in the National Basketball Association that is part of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference.

It is based in Los Angeles, California and it’s home arena is the Staples Center which is also the home arena of the Los Angeles Lakers. In the history of the Los Angeles Clippers, they only had six winning seasons.

 

History – Before the Los Angeles Clippers

 

It was formerly called the Buffalo Bravos and was organized in 1970. It is one of the three teams that joined the NBA last 1970-71 season along with Cleveland Cavaliers and Portland Trailblazers.

Their homecourt that time was Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. Their first head coach was the hall of famer Dolph Schayes. The first star players of the franchise were Bob Kauffman and Don May. Kauffman led the team in scoring with 20.4 points per game in the season as they finished it with a 22-60 record.

In the 1971-72 season, they acquired Elmore Smith and Randy Smith from the draft and repeated its record 22-60. As they changed their head coach to Jack Ramsay, they finished the 1972-73 season with 21-61 record.

They also acquired the talented forward or center Bob McAdoo from North Carolina. Their first postseason appearance was in the 1973-74 season. Their first round series was against the Boston Celtics and they lost in six games. Also, that season, McAdoo averaged 30.6 points and 15.1 rebounds per game.

The next season, Bob McAdoo averaged 34.5 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.12 blocks per game which earned him to be the Most Valuable Player. They were qualified for the playoffs for the 1974-75 and 1975-76 season. Their record in 1976-77 season was 30-52 and 27-55 in 1977-78 because of their poor performance.

After the 1977-1978 season the Bravos were moved to San Diego and it was named San Diego Clippers. Their first season in San Diego, they had a winning season of 43-39 record under the head coach Gene Shue. Despite the winning record, they did not make it to the postseason. It will be the last season of the Clippers that has a winning record.
In 1978-79 season, they struggled more and end its season with a 35-47 win-loss record. The next season, Paul Silas took over as the head coach and leading them to a 36-46 record, and still missing the playoffs.
