Notre Dame Men’s Basketball 2010-2011

The University of Notre Dame is ranked 4th in the NCAA Division 1 standings released March 7th.
The Fighting Irish entered the Big East Championship quarterfinals with an overall record of 26-5 and a conference record of 14-4. Their latest match against Cincinnati showed the Fighting Irish were ready to play and won 89-51.

The Fighting Irish Season

Notre Dame has had great success this season with their No. 2 seed in the Big East Championship. They faced Cincinnati and defeated them by a landslide. Notre Dame will enter the semifinals where they unfortunately have a semifinals record of 0-3.

The win against Cincinnati was the second-largest point margin victory in the history of the Big East Championship. Going into the semifinals, the Irish are 12-1 in their last 13 games and have scored 80-plus points in a game 14 times this season. Mike Brey leads Notre Dame but looks to Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis to take control of the game.

About The Team

Mike Brey is in his 10th year as head coach of the Fighting Irish and has had more than 300 career victories, 10 20-win seasons, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances. Brey is the third longest tenured coach in the Big East Conference and has won the Big East Coach of the Year three times, and America Co-Coach of the Year.

Senior Ben Hansbrough was selected as Big East Player of the Year and All-Big East First Team. In his career, he has averaged 15 points per game, 975 points, and 65 starts all within the past two seasons.

He leads Notre dame this season by averaging 18.5 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists. Hansbrough has scored in double figures in all but two games, scoring 30-plus points on two occasions, and 20-plus points 14 times. Graduate Student Tim Abromaitis received the Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year, as well as a first team selection to the Capital One Academic All-America men’s basketball team for the second straight year.

Last season he also won the Big East Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. Abromaitis was also selected to the All-Big East third team and averaged 15.2 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. He recently became the 51st player in school history to hit 1,000 career points and a career scoring average of 13.5 points per game. He has scored double figures in all but four games and hit 20-plus points in 11 games.
