Other Basketball Shooting DrillsThese are some basketball shooting drills, that WILL make dramatic changes when you shoot the ball, for the better. Catch the ball and immediately shoot, to train your subconscious mind. Do this 50 consecutive times. And everytime you take a shot, imagine you making the shot.
Catch the ball, take a few dribbles and shoot to develop a routine. Do this 50 consecutive times.
Get your friend or your parent, and tell him to try to block your shot. It's always easier to shoot when you practice on your own. So why not practice while someone tries to reject you.
If you can't find a friend to work with, you can use a chair. I know it's not the same as a real player blocking your shot but it will get easier in a real situation once you have practiced like that. Get a friend and see who can do better at 10 free throws. It can be contagious (if you are competitive guy). Then you can try 10 jump shots from the free throw line.
This may not feel like practicing but rather like having fun when you are actually practicing, working on your shooting skills. Also, another cool thing that you can do, since you already got a friend:), is to play "all around the world". And for example, if you think you need to work on your 3 point shots then shoot from the 3 point line when playing. Me and my friends end up doing this for hours. Tip -- Try to palm the ball, dribble around to feel the ball before shooting. Some people say it's better to be your own coach. Train by yourself. Other people say, get someone who really knows his stuff. Hmm, well, whatever you decide, bottom line will be practice as I outlined on this page. You see, there is an advantage if you decide to work with somebody. Even if that somebody is your friend who just throws back the ball when you miss a shot. You'll definitely shoot more shots that way. But on the other hand, if you work on your own, you'll have to run to get the ball for every shot that you miss. You'll sweat more. You'll run more. This, by the way makes you better in shooting. It's a combination of things (if you are not in a good shape, you better run and jump and shoot and then run some more). So don't bother that much whether you end up shooting the ball by yourself or you use weights or not, or your arc is higher or lower. The bottom line, is PRACTICE. Whatever you decide to do, you can't possibly go wrong if you practice. Okay.. Okay, I may have stressed that enough:) Seriously though, take a look at players like Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Jason Kidd. These are guys that can really shoot the ball, and they all have some pre-game routines they do. They all do the some basketball shooting drills. Does it really matter who throws 15 or 20 shots from where and in what order? Hell no. What's important is that they all shoot the ball. One last simple basketball shooting drill I can give you, to work on your hand, your wrist and your fingers, is the following one.
Lie on the floor/bed/court, wherever is better for you. Put the ball in a position as if getting ready to shoot. And then, just shoot the ball as high as you can using ONLY your wrist, your fingers and your elbow. When the ball returns, do the same. This completes one rep. Do 60 reps to complete a set. When doing the next set, (it doesn't necessarily have to be in the same day) try to shoot the ball higher.
