Wisconsin Badger Men's Basketball

The University of Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 13th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted March 7th.

The Badgers entered the Big Ten Tournament with an overall record of 23-8 and a conference record of 13-5. They faced Penn State in the Big Ten Championship quarterfinals and fell 36-33.

The Badger’s Season

The Badger’s awaited their fate Sunday night as they waited to hear if they would get an at-large big into the NCAA Tournament. The gods were on their side as they received a No. 4 seed in the Southeast Region and will play 13th-seeded Belmont. The loss against Penn State is what caused the Badger’s to be in this situation.

The low scoring game was due to the fact that both teams struggled to produce offensively. Penn State was a cold 33.3% from the floor and Wisconsin was even colder with 29.4%. Penn State used an early 18-2 run to get and maintain the lead. The Badger’s put up a good stand defensively as they battled their way back.

In the end Penn state was victorious leaving the Badger’s chance to go to the NCAA Tournament in the hands of the selection committee. Head Coach Bo Ryan leads the Badgers, but depends on Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor to get it done on the court.

About The Team

Bo Ryan is in his 10th season as the Head Coach of the Badgers. Ryan is the 56th coach in NCAA history to reach the 600-win plateau and is one of eight active Division 1 coaches who can boast of that.

Under his direction, Wisconsin has earned five Big Ten titles, an NCAA appearance every season, and the six winningest seasons in school history. Ryan’s 12 NCAA Tournament wins are a school record and he is the first coach in school history to lead a team to multiple Sweet 16 appearances.

Senior Jon Leuer and Junior Jordan Taylor were both named to the All-Big Ten First Team this season. Leuer averaged 18.9 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, and scored double figures in every game this season. In addition to this, Taylor was also named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team.

Taylor averaged 20.1 points per game, 4.89 assists per game and a league-high 4.63 assist-turnover ratio during conference play. He is the only player in the conference to rank in the top five in both scoring and assists. Taylor is also a finalist in the running for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award. This award is given to college basketball’s top point guard.

About The School

The University of Wisconsin has several different locations, with their main campus being in Madison, WI. Peers and professors know Wisconsin is known for having an academically challenging environment in which intellectual growth is encouraged.

It is also a very active campus in which most are engaged in diverse activities, school clubs, etc outside of the classroom. No matter what the reason for choosing Wisconsin, know that it will be a great all-around experience.
