Utah State University Men’s Basketball Team 2010-2011

The Utah State University Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division 1 standing released on March 7th.

The Aggies will enter the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 30-3 and a WAC record of 15-1. They will face Kansas State in the 2nd round in Tucson, AZ.

The Aggies’ Season

The Aggies have had key wins this season to get them the No. 12 seed in the Southeast Regional of the tournament. In their victory over Boise State University, they claimed the WAC Championship title 77-69. This is the second time in the past three years the Aggies have earned the WAC title and their eighth-straight win.

After defeating Boise State, the Aggies tied the school record for most wins in a single season. Utah State is 25-0 this season and has won 49-straight games when leading at intermission. Utah State will battle with No. 5 Kansas State in an attempt to continue their season.

Kansas State is coming off a loss to Colorado in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Both teams are itching for a win and won’t give up until the fourth quarter buzzer goes off. Head Coach Stew Morrill leads the Aggies but needs Tai Wesley, Brockeith Pane, Brian Green, and Tyler Newbold to be successful.

About The Team

Stew Morrill is in his 13th season as Head Coach of the Aggies and has broken many school records. He is the school’s all-time winningest coach as he has over 225 career wins.

Morrill has guided the Aggies to 11-straight 23-win seasons and 11-straight postseason appearances, both of which are school records. He has led Utah State to eight NCAA Tournaments, its second straight outright title and the school’s 19th NCAA Tournament appearance. Morrill was also named WAC Coach of the Year three times, including this season, and NABC District 6 Co-Coach of the Year.

Senior Tai Wesley was voted WAC Player of the Year and All-WAC First Team. He averages 14.5 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, and 72% from the free throw line. Wesley has scored in double-figures 25 times this season. Senior Brockeith Pane was named to the All-WAC First Team and All-Newcomer Team.

He averages 11.2 points per game, 3.5 assists per game and 43.7% from the field. He has scored in double-figures 19 times this season. Senior Brian Green was named to the All-WAC Second Team. He ranks first in the WAC in three-point shooting. Green averages 10.8 points per game and 73.6% from the free-throw line.

Senior Tyler Newbold was named to the All-Defensive Team. He averages 7.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game, making him a great all-around player
