University of Louisville Men’s Basketball

The University of Louisville was ranked 14th in the NCAA Division 1 standing released March 7.
The Cardinals will enter the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 25-9 and a Big East conference record of 12-6. Louisville will face Morehead State in their first match of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinal’s Season

The Cardinal’s faced Kemba Walker and UConn in the Big East Finals and loss in a close match 69-66. The score was close the entire game until the last few moments. Louisville turned the ball over and then free throws gave UConn the lead.

Louisville wasn’t sure if this would be the end of their season or not and had to wait to see if they would get an at-large bid. The Cardinals received a No. 4 seed into the NCAA Tournament and will be facing 13th-seed Morehead Sate.

Most games this season were won by a landslide, with only a few being 5-points or less. Louisville likes to get a lead and keep it. Rick Pitino leads the Cardinals but depends on Preston Knowles, Peyton Siva, and Kyle Kuric.

About The Team

Rick Pitino is in his 10th season with the University of Louisville. He is the only coach to take three different tams to the NCAA Final Four and has coached the Cardinals to their eighth straight 20-win season. Pitino is also an inductee into the New York Hall of Fame and served for three years as the president and head coach of the Boston Celtics.

Senior Preston Knowles was named to the All-Big East Second Team. He averages 14.5 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, 1.8 steals per game, and 2.9 three-pointers per game. Sophomore Peyton Siva was an honorable mention selection and averages 10 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 2.1 steals per game and 5 assists per game. Junior Kyle Kuric was selected for the Big East Conference Honor Roll.

He was also selected to compete in Papa John’s Dunk of the Year and was a finalist. Kuric averages 10.7 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game.

Note: Sophomore Rakeem Buckles suffered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the victory over Pittsburgh. He had just come back from a broken index finger only to be plagued with another injury. Buckles was a key player and before he was injured was averaging 8.2 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game.

The University of Louisville is located in Louisville, KY and is one of Kentucky’s largest metropolitan areas. 7 of the 11 colleges and schools are on campus, with the other four located in downtown Kentucky or another nearby location.
Over 22,000 students attend Louisville from a variety of backgrounds. On campus, most notably is “The Thinker” statue. One of the world’s most famous sculptures. Thinker has been on campus since 1903 in hopes of inspiring students.
