University of Florida Men’s Basketball 2010-2011

The University of Florida Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 12th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted March 7th.

The Gators entered the SEC Tournament semifinals with an overall record of 26-6 and a conference record of 13-3. The Gators met Vanderbilt and beat them 77-66 to advance to the title game.

The Gators’ Season

The Gators entered the SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed after beating Vanderbilt to clinch its third outright SEC Title for the regular season. They faced the University of Kentucky in the SEC championship game and lost 70-54. Kentucky’s defense and the Gators missed lay-ups resulted in the loss. But the story doesn’t end there.

The Gators won an at-large bid as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The season will continue on for the Gators as they attempt to advance in the NCAA Tournament. They will face the University of Santa Barbara. Head Coach Bill Donovan leads the Gators, but he relies on Chandler Parsons, Erving Walker, and Kenny Boynton.

In addition to this eight of his players have been first round draft picks in the NBA Draft.

Senior Chandler Parsons was named SEC Player of the Year, and All-SEC First Team. Parsons was also named to the NABC Division 1 District 21 First Team. He averaged 11.4 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game. A humble Parsons stated that he “shares it proudly with my teammates and coaching staff.” Junior Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton were both named to the All-SEC Second Team.

Walker leads the Gators in scoring with 14.5 points per game, including a 30-foot three-pointer to force a second overtime in the game against Georgia.

He also had over 100 assists in this single season. Walker was also named to the NABC Division 1 District 21 Second Team. Boynton averaged 13.7 points per game. Walker and Boynton combined to make 123 of Florida’s 181 three-pointers during regular season.
