Sam Young Bio

Samuel David Young was born on June 1, 1985 in Washington, D.C. he is an American professional basketball player and was drafted in the 2nd round by the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association in the 2009 NBA Draft.

He was 36th overall pick in NAB draft. at the University of Pittsburgh Young played college basketball.

Young's listed height is 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) and his listed weight is 215 lb (98 kg).

Currently he is playing with Memphis Grizzlies, as No. 4 at small forward position. Young is the eldest of five children, and was born to single mother.

In 2003 and 2004, Young led the Patriots to Maryland state titles at Friendly High School in Fort Washington, he averaged 24.6 points, 14.0 rebounds, and six blocked shots per game as a senior. Young attended Hargrave Military Academy for a year, after graduating from high school, averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds for a team that went 28–1 and was ranked second nationally among prep school programs.

In 2005 Young was named its National Prep School Player of the Year by the basketball recruiting site Scout.com. for the 2005–2006 season Young joined the Pitt basketball team.

He wanted to display his perimeter skills, but head coach wanted him to play on the inside. Young was named the 2008 Big East Tournament MVP he averaged 18 points per game. After scoring 80 points in the same tournament, he was also named the conference's most improved player.

In his senior season at Pitt, Young was given the honor of being a Third Team All-America, and he averaged 19.2 points per game. In the 2009 NCAA Tournament he averaged 23.5 points in four games. It also increased his 2009 NBA draft stock.Important career information of Young shows that he played in college for Pittsburgh, and his NBA Draft 2009 / Round: 2 / Pick: 36th overall Selected by the Memphis Grizzlies.

2010-11 Statistics shows his PPG 6.8, RPG 2.10, APG 0.9 and EFF + 6.78. He was the fifth leading scorer in Summer League August 19, 2010. Young also writes poetry, and a skilled piano player.
