Oswego State University Men’s Basketball Team 2010-2011

The Oswego State University Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 1st in the NCAA Division III East Region standings on February 28th.

The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 24-5. Oswego State faced Rhode Island College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and lost 71-63.

The Lakers’ Season

The Lakers had a Cinderella season as they won 24 games, made it to the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Playoffs, and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The loss to Rhode Island ended their dream season, but it was a hard fought game. Rhode Island shot 55.3% from the field, making 21 of 38 shots.

All five starters combined to score all the team’s points with the exception of four. The Lakers shot 36.5% from the field, making 19 of 52 shots, but went 21 of 26 from the free throw line for 80.8%. The game was tied with 12 minutes left to play, until Rhode Island went on a 6-0 run.

The Lakers would get to within 5 points, but that would be as close as they would get. Head Coach Adam Stockwell leads the team but depends on Chad Burridge and Hayden Ward to win games.
