Oklahoma Sooners Women's Basketball 2010-2011

The University of Oklahoma Sooners were ranked 18th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted February 28th.

They entered the Big 12 Tournament with an overall record of 20-10 and a conference record of 10-6. The Sooners met Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament and lost to them at Texas Tech, ending their season.

The Sooner’s Season

The Sooners met a tough end to their season with a loss to Texas Tech at Texas Tech. The final score was 65-61 in Texas’ favor. This win for Texas broke their 11-game losing streak. Texas used a 10-2 run at the start of the half to distance themselves from the Sooners. The Sooners got to within one-point but were unable to convert on the offensive end, leading to their eventual loss.

The season as a whole saw much success. Most games were won by 15 ore more points with the exception of a few. Sherri Coale leads the Sooners but looks to top performers Danielle Robnison and Aaryn Ellenberg for wins and leadership on the court.

About The Team

Head Coach Sherri Coale is in her 15th season as the head coach of Oklahoma. She stresses the importance of an education and mastering the game of life so that the challenges on court will seem like nothing.

This is evident in her record of six big 12 Regular Season Championships, 79 Academic All-Big 12 honors, four Big 12 Tournament Championships, 10 All-District Academic Team members, 11 straight NCAA tournament appearances, four Academic All-Americans, and seven Sweet 16 appearances.

Senior Danielle Robinson was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the third straight season and finished her career as a four-time member of the All-Defensive Team. She averaged 18.4 points per game and was among the Big 12’s top five players in field goal percentage, assists, and steals.

Robinson finished her career with 2,047 points and ninth-leading scorer in the history of the Big 12 conference. Freshman Aaryn Ellenberg was selected to the Big 12’s All-Freshman Team and honorable mention to the All-Big 12 Team. She averaged 16.9 points per game and was the top free throw shooter and fifth leading-rebounder among freshman.

In addition to this she is also a four-time Big 12 Freshman of the Week receiver. Ellenberg was three 3-pointers behind in matching Oklahoma’s single-season record of 88 made.
