Kansas Wildcats Men's Basketball 2010-2011

The Kansas State Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 19th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted on March 7.

The Wildcats entered the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 22-10 and a Big-12 conference record of 10-6. They will face Utah State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the Southeast Region.

The Wildcat’s Season

The Wildcat’s waited to hear their names on Selection Sunday to see if they would get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. After a loss to Colorado, a bid to the tournament was the only way they would continue their season. The game against Colorado was back and fourth, with four Wildcats scoring in double figures.

This wasn’t enough and Colorado took the win and play in the semifinals game. Relief and excitement set in as the Wildcats found out they would be getting the No. 5 seed in the Southeast Region. They will face No. 12 Utah State and winner will advance to play either No. 4 seed Wisconsin or No. 13 Belmont.

This will be the Wildcat’s 32nd postseason appearance, which includes 25 in the NCAA Tournament and seven in the Postseason NIT. Head Coach Frank Martin leads this team but on court its up to Jacob Pullen and Rodney McGruder to lead the team to victory.

About The Team

Head Coach Frank Martin is in his fourth season at Kansas State. In his third season at Kansas he led the Wildcats to within one game of the Final Four and the school’s first Top 10 final ranking. He has won the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year and was a candidate for many other National Coach of the Year awards.

In his four seasons he has compiled a 94-42 overall record, a school-record 29 wins and a Big 12 era high 11 victories and defeated 12 teams that advanced to the postseason.

Senior Jacob Pullen was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and All-Defensive Team, his second straight year receiving Big 12 honors. Pullen was chosen as Defensive Player of the Year by Yahoo! Sports.

He averages 19.6 points per game and also had 26 double-digit scoring games, 15 20-point games, 101 assists, and 46 steals. He has top school records for having 131 games played, 102 double-digit scoring games, 207 steals, and 289 3-point field goals. Pullen is also the school’s second player to get over 2,000 career points.

Sophomore Rodney McGruder was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team and led the team in 3-point field goals. He is the only player to start all 31 games and averaged 11.4 points per game, 45.1% shooting, 6.2 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, and 30.5 minutes per game. He has scored in double figures in 21 games.
