Kansas Jayhawks Men's Basketball

The University of Kansas Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 2nd in the NCAA Division 1 standings released on March 7.

The Jayhawks will enter the Big 12 Championship with an overall record of 29-2 and a conference record of 14-2. Kansas will meet Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals on March 10.

The Jayhawks Season

The Jayhawks ended regular season play as the Big 12 Title Champion and will enter the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship as the No. 1 seed for the eighth time in the 15-year history of the league.

This is their seventh straight and 11th Big 12 Championship appearance. Kansas leads the league with an average of 82.7 points per game, 18.2 scoring margin, 39.4 three-point field goal percentage, 7.7 rebound margin, and a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio.

They lead the nation in win-loss percentage (93.5), 51.8 field goal percentage, and 18.2 assists. Bill self leads the Jayhawks as the head coach, but he depends on Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris, and Brady Morningstar to take control and win games.

About The Team

Bill Self is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Jayhawks and is this year’s Big 12 Coach of the Year. In his time at the University of Kansas, he has won a national championship, six straight regular-season Big 12 titles, four league tournament championships, and a Final Four appearance and title.

In addition to this he has had 12-straight 20-win seasons and 10 league crowns. He is a four-time finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, and is one of four coaches in NCAA Division 1 history to have led three different teams to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Junior Marcus Morris was voted Big 12 Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team selection. He averaged 18.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in league play. In the past four games he is averaging 21 points, including his sixth double-double of the season.

His twin brother Markieff Morris was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team. He leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage with 59.8% and rebounds with 8.3 per game. He averages 13.5 points per game. Senior Brady Morningstar was All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and Big 12 All-Defensive Team. He averaged 6.5 point per game and 1.5 steals per game. Morningstar also leads the Big 12 in assist-turnover ratio with 2.7.
