Ishmael Smith Bio

Ishmael Smith is a professional basketball player. He was born on July 5, 1988 in Concord, NC.

Currently Smith is playing for the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. weiging 175 lb (79 kg)and 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m)tall Smith played college basketball at Wake Forest. On August, 2010 he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Rockets. In 2011, January he was assigned to Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He was then recalled to play for the Houston Rockets, but on February 2011, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Smith plays at point guard position and wears No. 13 jersey. In 2010, he led the Rockets in assists per game during the 2010 NBA Summer League and finished with averages of 7.8 points and 4.8 assists in five games with Houston.

Smith played college basketball at Wake Forest, and the only player in Wake Forest history with 1,000 points and 600 assists in a career. During his college, he was also ranked sixth in career minutes played (3,667), eighth in career steals (153), 18th in career games played (121) and 36th in career points.In his college career, Smith was named Second-Team All-ACC and earned Second-Team All-District honors from the NABC.

He also received Team Assists Leader award. in 2006 Smith graduated from Central Cabarrus High, finished his high school career with 1,775 points and a school-record 687 assists. In 2005 and 2006 he was given All-Conference honors, and again in same years he was named the Charlotte Observer's Piedmont Player of the Year.

Smith went undrafted after his senior season and August, 2010 he was signed as a free agent by Houston. He finished his school career as one of the top all-around players. He also had an experience of three-year team captain. Smith is a tireless player and routinely plays almost 40 minutes per game. As a rookie in 2006-07 he led the ACC in assists.

Smith who is an undrafted rookie finished his four-year career at Wake Forest, averaging 9.2 points, 5.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.26 steals in 121 games.
