Greg Oden Biography

Gregory Wayne Oden, Jr is an American basketball player, he was born on January 22, 1988 at Buffalo, New York.

Currently Oden is a member of the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA, his No. is 52 and he plays in centre position. He is 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) tall and his listed weight is 285 lb (129 kg). For one season Oden played basketball for Ohio State University and during that season the team was the Big Ten Champion and the tournament runner-up in the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.

Oden was selected first overall in the 2007 NBA Draft On June 2007. He missed the entire 2007–08 NBA season because he underwent microfracture knee surgery in September 2007. Currently Oden is spokesperson of "Team Oden" for Oregon Mentors which is promoting mentoring for kids.

During his early years Oden was named Parade's High School Co-Player of the Year 2005 and 2005 National Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

In 2006, he was named the 2006 Indiana Mr. Basketball. On June 2005, Oden announced that he would be attending Ohio State University starting with the 2006–07 season, and during his performance, he was described as a "once-in-a-decade player" by Steve Kerr. Oden, on March 2007, along with his some other mates was named to the Associated Press All-American Team.

He never lost a home game, throughout his high-school and college career.

In 2007 April, Oden announced that he would be entering the 2007 NBA Draft.

He was selected with the #1 overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers on June 2007. Although Oden was picked first overall in the 2007 NBA Draft, but was classified as a rookie for the 2008–09 season because of the knee injury. His 2010–2011 season ends up with the announcement that Oden would have microfracture surgery on his left knee, this injury marks Oden's 3rd NBA season cut short due to a knee injury.

Player of the Year, Oden was also nominated as 2006 McDonald's All-American, 2006 Naismith Prep Player of the Year and 2007 Second Team All-American.

Oden says he would have been a dentist if not NAB player. His favorite subject was math during his school days. Anthony, younger brother of Oden is an offensive lineman for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
