Gonzaga Bulldogs Women's Basketball 2010-2011

The Gonzaga University women’s basketball team was ranked 22nd in the NCAA Division 1 standings released February 28.

The Bulldogs entered the WCC Tournament with an overall record of 28-4 and a perfect conference record of 14-0. Gonzaga University was victorious in their recent game against Saint Mary’s to become the WCC Conference Champions.

The Bulldogs Season

The Bulldogs have achieved much this season and most recently their third straight WCC Tournament Title win, seventh in program history. Their next stop: the NCAA Tournament. They have gone undefeated in conference play for the second season in a row and third time in seven years. Gonzaga has also won 30-straight regular season conference games for the past three seasons.

Most games this season have been won by a high point margin, with only a few being close. The closest games usually ended in a loss, which means the Bulldogs will want to get a good lead in order to feel comfortable. For now, they can revel in the success and get prepared for the NCAA Tournament.

Kelly Graves leads the Bulldogs as head coach, but depends on Courtney Vandersloot, Kayla Standish, and Katelan Redmon to dominate.

About The Team

Head Coach Kelly Graves is in his 11th season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He is considered to be the winningest coach in Bulldog history with six-straight WCC conference championship appearances, three WCC title, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and a Sweet Sixteen appearance for the first time in school history. In addition to this he has also led the Bulldogs to its fifth 20-win season in six seasons and was named WCC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, sixth of this career.

Senior Courtney Vandersloot was named WCC Player of the Year for the third year in a row and named to the All-WCC First Team for the fourth year in a row. She averaged 9.9 assists per game, 18.7 points per game, 3 steals per game, and a 3.19 assist to turnover ratio.

In addition to this she has about 1,050-career assists, 15 double-doubles, named WCC Player of the week four times, and Player of the Month twice. Junior Kayla Standish was also selected to the All-WCC First Team.

She averaged 16.7 points per game, 1.8 blocks per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, 55.4 field goal percentage, and a 78.1 free throw percentage. Standish had 10 double-doubles and was named WCC Player of the Week twice.

Junior Redmon was also named to the All-WCC First Team. She was last seasons WCC Newcomer of the Year, and averaged 17.4 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 1.4 steals per game, and 55.5 field goal percentage. She also scored double figures in all but two games.
