Florida State Seminoles Women’s Basketball 2010-2011

The Florida State Seminoles women’s basketball team were ranked 14th in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted February 28th.

The Seminoles entered the ACC-Tournament with an overall record of 23-7 and a conference record of 11-3. They entered the quarterfinals of the ACC-Tournament as the No. 3 seed and were defeated by the University of North Carolina.

Florida State’s Season

Florida entered into the ACC-Tournament quarterfinals hoping to advance over the University of North Carolina. A lack of scoring plagued the team and led to the ultimate loss. The Seminoles trailed by 15 at the half and used a 12-1 run to pull within one point of the Tar Heels.

This would be the closest they would get because they then went scoreless for the remainder of the game. Florida State has played in 20 ACC Tournaments with a record of 6-20. Sue Semrau leads the Seminoles but she looks to senior Christian Hunnicutt, junior Cierra Bravard, and freshman Natasha Howard for on court dominance.

About The Team

Sue Semrau completed her 14th season as Head Coach at Florida State. She is considered to be the most winningest coach in Florida State women’s basketball history.

Her record boasts of a second consecutive regular season ACC co-championship, an Elite Eight appearance with a No. 3 seed, most wins in a season with 29, 5 20-win seasons, and a highest national ranking ever at No. 9. In addition to this she has also had eight Florida State student-athletes drafted into the WNBA.

Senior Christian Hunnicutt was named as ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Hunnicutt has started all but one game this season and her defense helped put Florida State as the No. 3 seed. She is the fourth Florida State player in school history to make the All-ACC Defensive Team. Most impressively is her 3.8 assist/turnover ratio.

Junior Cierra Bravard was named to the All-ACC First Team. She leads Florida state with 14.4 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, and .545 shooting percentage and .839 free-throw percentage. She is the fifth Seminole to earn first-team honors. Freshman Natasha Howard was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.

She was the team’s fourth leading scorer with 11.1 points per game. In addition to this, she had 6.4 rebounds per game and started all 29 games of the season. Howard scored double figures in 16 games and had three double-doubles. She is the ninth player in school history to earn this honor.
