Famous Players for the Chicago Sky

The Chicago Sky has been home to many well-known female athletes, many of which have experience internationally as well.

These women have either been drafted or traded to become a part of the team, and even though several of them have moved on to other teams, their notable achievements and the fact that they helped make the Sky the team it is today is commendable and memorable to say the least.

Here are a few of the most notable players from the Sky:

Candice Dupree

Candice Dupree, one of the first draft picks the Chicago Sky ever had, went on to be one of their shining stars.

In the off season, she has played for teams both in Poland and in Slovakia; she puts this experience to good use on the WNBA stage, however, as she has been recognized for numerous outstanding achievements, including the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2006, and WNBA All-Star team selection in 2006, 2007, and 2009

Armintie Price

Armintie Price was selected third by the Chicago Sky in the 2007 draft; in September of that same year she was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year – a very distinguished and rare honor. During the off-season of the following year, she played overseas in Spain, and has recently been putting her skills to the test as part of the Atlanta Dream basketball team.

Nikki McCray

Nikki McCray is a distinguished WNBA athlete, having had 8 excellent seasons as part of the league. She is an accomplished Olympian, with two basketball gold medals to her name; she was also selected to be on three WNBA All-Star teams during her time as a player in the league.

Even though she is now retired, her presence in the league helped to shape the way that defense and intensity was viewed.

Catherine Kraayeveld

Catherine Kraayeveld, daughter of ex-Seahawk football player Dave Kraayeveld, was traded to the Chicago Sky in 2010. In 2007 she was recognized for her stellar 3-point hooting ability, with a .411 percentage form behind the arc – this put her in 8th place in the entire league for 3-point shooting prowess.

Shameka Christon

ShamekaChriston was traded to the Sky as part of the same three-player trade agreement that brought Catherine Kraayeveld to the team as well.

In the off-seasons, she has played overseas for two Iseaeli teams, as well as a team from Spain. In 2009 she was selected to come to the USA Women’s National Basketball Team’s training camp – there were only 20 players extended this honor. Of those 20 players, 12 will represent the USA in the 2010 World Championships and in the 2012 Olympic games.

Kristi Tolliver

Kristi Tolliver is known for her shooting skills and her ability to perform in tough situations and in clutch moments.

Among her laundry list of notable awards, several stand out, including the ACC Player of the Year award in 2008-2009, a WBCA All-American in 2008 and in 2009, a Sports Illustrated All-American 1st Team member in 2008, and the Nancy Lieberman Award winner in 2008.
