Connecticut College Men’s Basketball 2010-2011

The University of Connecticut Men’s Basketball Team was ranked 21st in the NCAA Division 1 standings posted on March 7th.

The UConn Huskies will enter the West Region of the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 26-9 and a Big East conference record of 9-9. The Huskies have had many exciting games this season and will take on Bucknell with the same intensity.

The Huskies’ Season

UConn has had an incredible season thus far. They didn’t have the greatest conference record, compared to some teams, but they have drastically turned their season around when it counted. Uconn won the Big East Tournament Title with a win against Louisville. This game was the fifth game in five days for the Huskies so needless to say they were tired.

The game was always close until the Huskies fought past the exhaustion, spearheaded by the efforts of Kemba Walker. Neither one of the teams led the second half by more than four points over the final eight minutes but the crowd beckoned the Huskies to give them a win; they didn’t disappoint. No. 3 seed UConn will now face No. 14 seed Bucknell in Washington D.C. as they battle to advance in the tournament. Head Coach Jim Calhoun leads the Huskies, but he relies on Kemba Walker, Shabazz Napier, and Jeremy Lamb to win games.

Head Coach Jim Calhoun is in this 24th season with the Huskies. Calhoun continues to impress fans and critics alike with his impressive resume. Walker has also won the Oscar Robertson Trophy the Wooden Award, the Naismith Award, and the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard. He averages 23.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, 1.9 steals per game, and 4.3 assists per game. Freshman Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb were both named to the Big East All-Rookie Team.

Napier has come off the bench this season and is a defensive presence for UConn. He averaged 8.5 points and 3.1 assists per game. He was also named Big East Rookie of the Week once. Lamb has started 29 of 30 games in his first season and averaged 9.6 points, and 4.4 rebounds per game.
