Blake Griffin Biography

Born on the 16th of March in the year 1989, Blake Griffin is professional American basketball player who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association.

At the Oklahoma Christian School, Griffin had a very good high school career and won winning titles in each of the four years he spent there under the supervision of his father who was the head coach there.

For the University of Oklahoma Sooners he played as well and got numerous accolades in his second year which included the Naismith College player of the year, Oscar Robertson Trophy and the John Wooden Award.

To enter the NBA draft 2009, he left college after two seasons and he got selected as the first overall by the Clippers. But because of his injury in the kneecap which broke, he had a surgery and had to take the season from 2009 to 2010 off. He got the injury during the final of the pre season game. His debut to the NBA was made as a rookie the season following and he got selected for playing in the All-Star Game. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2011.

Griffin’s father was also a basket ball centre and track standout at the NAIA Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Blake and his brother Taylor were home schooled by her mother until Taylor was in grade tenth and Blake was in grade eighth. Blake was really good friends with Sam Bradford. Blake’s parents had a trophy company which Bradford’s father used. Also Bradford father owned a gym where Blake and Bradford used to go and play and practice basketball.

Besides playing basketball, Blake also played Baseball and was the first baseman and was also interested in playing football as a wide receiver, safety and a tight end.

Blake was called the Player of the Year by the Tulsa World and The Oklahoma and was also called the Oklahoma Boys All-State first team, All American Second team for EA sports and All American Third team for Parade.

He was also won the Gatorade Oklahoma Player of the Year award and got selected for the McDonald’s All-American in which he won the Contest of Powerade Jam Fest Slam Dunk and Jordan Brand All American teams. While playing against the Kansas Jayhawks, Blake suffered a sprain in the medial collateral ligament in the left knee just sometime before the game with Sooners.

In two months time he along with injuring the left knee injured his right knee also and the cartilage torn and had to undergo a surgery for that. During the recover he had to miss a few games but was soon back in the game and playing.

After sophomore year, Blake declared of giving up the eligibility of the next two years and joined NBA Draft. In 2009 he was selected as the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA Draft. Although he missed the season for 2009-2010 because of his surgery he was still considered the rookie of the year for season 2010-11.

For the months November, December and January he was named as the Western Conference Rookie.
