About Angel McCoughtry

Angel McCoughtry has an impressive resume and she isn’t even thirty yet. The almost 25 year old was named the 2009-2010 WNBA Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Rookie, MVP of Ekaterinburg International Invitational and won the gold medal as well, and the All-Defensive 2nd team.

Not only is she a gold medal winner but McCoughtry was also fourth in the WNBA for steals per game with 2.18, along with being the No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft.

Her fame didn’t start in the WNBA but followed from Louisville, her alma mater. At Louisville, McCoughtry was the all-time leader of scoring and rebounds, with 2,779 and 1,261 respectively. She was also named 2009 Big East Defensive Player and averaged 20 points and 9.1 rebounds throughout her collegiate career.

Her senior year alone saw 23.1 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. In addition to this, she led the Big East in scoring, rebounding, and steals for three straight years, led Louisville to the championship game and first Final Four in program history, was a three-time All-Big East first team selection, three-time WBCA/State Farm All-American, Louisville’s first three time All-American and First Team All-American by the AP, USBWA, ESPN.com, and CBSSportsline.com.

Angel is also very humble with everything given to her and many times during interviews if asked about her superstar status she will defer to other members on the team and give them the credit for her blessing. She refuses to dwell on the losses and wants to dwell on the wins. It is an attitude like this that will continue to take Angel to many different places both on and off the court.

Last Season

Last Season, Angel McCoughtry was arguably the best forward on the team. Her statistics speak for themselves. During the regular season, McCoughtry started in all 34 games and averaged 30.7 minutes per game. She averaged 21.1 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game, and 21.1 points per game. She did a lot with the ball and without and that’s what has made her successful. To go along with these stats, she also was 41% from the field and 80.3% from the free throw line.

Playoffs

During the playoffs, the Dream worked very hard to make it to the third game in the WNBA finals. In all the playoff games that the Dream played in, McCoughtry started all and averaged 30.9 minutes per game. She averaged 26.7 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 2.3 assists per game. McCoughtry was also an impressive 46.2% from the field and 90% from the free throw line. McCoughtry increased her play during the playoffs especially when her team needed it the most.
